Victoria Grainger
My art is influenced by my education and work as a textile designer and has led me to experiment with paint, mixed media, collage, batik, fine art textiles and design. I love colour, drawing and spontaneous texture, pattern, marks and stitch.
I often have reoccurring themes from travel, childhood or interests, which link to other places and ‘lives’, such as: the culture and architecture of Oman, Scottish art college paint-splashed rebellion, poetry, Irish stately homes, my mother’s garden, and a lifetime sailing.
Now in Lymington and exploring rural England, my work can be a simple expression or impression of ‘somewhere and/or nowhere’. It draws direct inspiration from heritage and botanical sites, a varied culture of human activity, and the changing landscape and weather. Paintings visualised in my mind’s eye from conscious observation are often influenced by thoughts, feelings, ideas and readings.
I enjoy teaching and learning and have run batik workshops. As an artist I strive for authenticity, development and collaboration.
